Compare José's offense when batting right handed, versus batting left handed. If we could reverse time and get a do over, what would have happened if Jose had tried to bat righty once it became obvious Jose could hit a lot better from the right side.
The arguments against Jose Ramirez not batting righty include, Jose does not want to, perhaps because it is difficult for a switch hitter to suddenly always bat from one side. Makes one wonder if the term switch Pitcher should be applied to all batters who bat from one side only, and have to face pitchers from both sides of the plate.
If it is special to be able to bat from both sides of the plate, aka switch hitting, is it also special to bat from one side of the plate and face both lefty and righty pitching, aka, switch pitcher.
Perhaps there is a medical logic to continue to bat lefty after hammate surgery recovery even when the offensive numbers are profoundly bad, perhaps the hand has to heal as it is supposed to be used, to ensure the ideal bone regeneration in the hand???
On Friday, September 18, 2026 against the Oakland, José's first 2 at bats were somewhat atrocious, the first at bat featured another dip the legs to align with the pitch, and then an upper cut swing that turned into a lazy fly ball. Next at bat with bases loaded, 2 outs, featured a strike out. Third at bat batting lefty, Jose hits a home run!
In the prior game when Jose had batted left, he did hit a ball to the warning track while batting lefty. However, Jose, batting righty, is an entirely different batter. There were a couple of games when the Guardians were a better offensive team with José on the bench.
One also wonders if opposing teams purpose put right handed pitchers on the mount to force José to hit lefty.
